Away Team Report

640 words; about a 3 minute read
Mission:
Shakedown
Location: Observator/Main Bridge
Timeline: After "The Captain Requests Your Presence"
ON:
Plase sat down in his chair on the Main Bridge, his eyes focused on the observatory hanging before them. He could almost see the Away Team aboard it, almost.
"Lieutenant," he said, referring to the person manning the Security and Tactical, "Open a channel to the Away Team."
"Aye, Captain," the Andorian Lieutenant stated. She tapped a few commands. "Open, sir."
"Cygnus to Away Team. Commander Bast, how are things looking over there?"
"Bast here. We're still surveying the array. As you know, this place is pretty big, we have a lot of ground to cover. Oddly enough, gravity is a bit lighter than we expected, around eighty percent of normal. The air feels a bit stale, but I think that's to be expected, since the last maintenance visit here was over forty years ago."
Plase nodded, though he knew Bast could not see him do so. "Understood, Commander. Has there been any indication of computer degradation or any other malfunctions?"
"Nothing so far, but we've only just begun our survey. Lieutenant Lagnas did just report some sort of energy spike, we're looking into it."
Just begun? They had been over there for almost 20 minutes. The Captain pushed that out of his mind and checked his feelings. Temerant had a lot going on, and Plase knew it. "Understood. Do you need more people over there to assist with your survey?"
"Not at this time, Captain. We're still powering up the consoles, most of these haven't been touched in over forty years. There is something a bit odd with the gravity though, it seems to be set a bit lower than normal. Not that it's especially..."
A voice was heard indistinctively in the background, too far away to be understood over the comm. "Please stand by, Captain," said Bast, before the line was cut.
Bane waited patiently for a few moments. As those moments dragged out, he started to become concerned. He turned and looked at the Science Officer currently manning Science. "Scan the facility, Ensign. Anything anomalous?"
"Checking, Captain." Bane looked back to the viewscreen, for all the help that gave him. This was not a visual communique, but rather just a voice communication. Bane could only see the station as it appeared relative to their distance to it. He could hear the commands being called up on the new holographic heads up display that were new to each station.
A minute later, Bast came back on the comm. "Captain, Lieutenant McConnors seems to have found something. Some kind of device connected to one of the consoles. He's not able to identify it."
The Captain furrowed his brow. "So not Starfleet issue. That is troubling. Has Mr. Stovek been able to get into the computer systems over there just yet to see if someone else has been aboard?" It was a dumb question and Bane regretting asking it as soon as it left his mouth, especially knowing that Commander Rh'Vareth was undoubtedly listening in from somewhere. It would likely reconfirm her suspicions that Bane truly didn't trust Bast, even though that was as far from the truth as the east was from the west. Plase knew Temerant was on top of things and was doing things as close to the book as the mission and current realities would allow.
"Commander Stovek is working on that as we speak," replied Bast. "So far we haven't found any evidence that anyone has been on board, except for this piece of equipment. Of course we'll keep looking."
Plase nodded without realizing it. "Good work, Commander. Please keep me informed."
"Yes, Sir," replied the First Officer. "Bast out." He tapped his communicator to cut the channel.
